Hi All - my very first post, so please bear with me......
I am finally nearing the end of what may be one of the longest kit builds in history, mainly because I went overseas just after I bought the kit from Jeremy. It is (will be....) an Escort Ghia Mk II-based Striker, with a 1700cc X-Flow, rebuilt courtesy of Vulcan. As you may imagine, I have had a few issues to attend to because of the age of the original kit, such as fitting new seat belt mountings to conform to current legislation.
Anyway, to get back to my question, I have fitted an ETB electronic speedo, and decided to fit the sender unit on a bracket above the magnets on the prop-shaft at the gearbox end, reasoning that, being a live axle set-up, fitting at the diff end wasn't an option due to the inherent movement of the prop-shaft/axle.
However, a chance conversation with ETB has highlighted that the gearbox (Escort Sport), being on a rubber mount, is just as likely to move around, and whack the sender and/or magnets, something I stupidly hadn't considered.
Can anyone recommend the best way to fit the sender unit on a live-axle Striker.
Thanks a lot
Ian

Re: Electronic Speedo Sender on a Live Axle Striker
I ended up mounting mine on the live axle itself with a magnet on the wheel. It was the only way I could get my Koso to work correctly. I've since moved on to use a GPS unit.
You may be able to pick=up on the front wheel but I couldn't get it to work on my set-up.

Thanks for your note, it's obviously not going to be a simple fix, and I'll have to see how I can change things around.
Just as well I'm not in a hurry......

Could you just mount the sender to the box and magnets to the prop, so no matter how much anything moves it all stays the same distance apart. This is how mine is done on the back on a Type9:

How about a bracket that fitted under one of the gear lever plate bolts? That worked (after a fashion) on my Fury, and let me get the sensor good and close to the magnets knowing they would both move together on the rubber g'box mount.

I made a bolt-on sleeve to take the sensor, mounted onto one of the diff nose fins on the live axle pointing at the prop flange & then counterbored the tips of the prop bolts in a lathe to take the magnets.

I'd mount the pick-up on a bracket on either the gerbox or the diff then it stays stationary relative to the box or diff.
Speedo on the front wheel would be a problem at IVA as the speedo test rollers are driven by the wheels so front sensors can't be tested. Mounting on one rear wheel can also cause problems as the test takes an average reading of the 2 wheel speeds and can lead to discrepancies if the speedo is driven off one wheel.

Thanks to all for taking the time to make your suggestions. I have decided to go with the sensor mounted on the diff, with the magnets countersunk into the flange bolt heads.
Wish me luck, and I will let you know the results (once the weather warms up a bit.....)
