Hi,
I am looking at upgrading my English axle to have a LSD and heavy duty drive shafts.
After a quick conversation with a guy from Quaife he suggested a 16spline LSD and halfshafts.
Is this what others have?
What type of power will this be able to take, I have read that the crown and pinion
tend to go at big power on the English axle. How much power are people putting through their English axles?
David

I have 208 BHP (175 at the wheels) through the stock halfshafts and a Quaife ATB. I believe that the issue tends to be with aftermarket crown wheels & pinions rather than the OEM. I'm looking to supercharge the car and take the power to 260-270 which will be the upper limit on an english axle. After that (when I drop the lower compression pistons and rods in) I'll take the engine upto 340 and it would certainly need a baby atlas at that point.

Re: English Axle how much power will it take?
It's standing starts that put real strain on the axle but Ford rally cars were putting 250bhp through them in the ' sixty's' . My half shafts and crown wheel were already 40 yrs old before they went into my kit in 1999 then put up with 7yrs of 15 events each year , standing starts before one side snapped on the startline at Curborough. Only at that point did I fit Quaife two piece shafts with standard number of splines on an aftermarket crown wheel ---- the crown wheel had been in the car for 4yrs and still is in there . Power was 231bhp when the shaft snapped but until then had been around 200bhp.
I used to literaly dump the clutch and moderate the throttle on starts but now feed the clutch for a few feet before fully out on the ' now ' ceramic ' clutch --- rather an on or off bit of kit , especially with the AP heavy duty cover that's been in the car from 1999 .

I'll make sure I bring a full tool kit to events then, Jeff but you'll have to provide your own welding equipment

Sounds interesting.

Standard one will be fine as long as you've got that "torque limiting clutch", Dave. Thats "slipping" to the rest of us

Not sure but I would be surprised if it is more than 30Kg. I'm looking to use a Charge Cooler rather than a straight intercooler.

Adi, that will be being thrown in the bin soon.
The cars coming apart again and im going to sort the clutch (and put a magnesium bellhousing on the gearbox).
I got someone who is willing to look at the wiring and try to chop out all of the extra bits that I don't need.
Im going to try to shed some weight out of the car.
Was looking at 4130 steel for the lower wishbones but that'll have to wait.
I'll have to stick with the standard one for the mo.
