Anglesey 3/4th September, 2 laps of the national circuit.
On Saturday it rained all day!
I signed on at 8am to discover that John Palmer had withdrawn, which left the class with seven runners. Jim and myself in the Striker, John Loudon, Stu Hill, Ian Davenport and Alan Caldecourt in their respective Westfield’s and Graham Cashmore in his very nice Davrian Mk6.
Practice consisted of one run over the two lap course. The top three in class after practice were, myself on 137.12, Jim on a 140.41 and John Loudon on a 143.22.
Next up were the timed runs, after the first of which, the first three in class remained the same with the times coming down to 135.67, 137.47 and 141.10. It was decided that the next timed run would be the last of the day as the weather was getting worse and time was running out. On the final run I had a big moment going in to ‘School corner’ and could only manage a time of 152.92. Jim managed to complete his run in 147.81 and John recorded a time of 158.91. So I managed to hold on for the class win, and my best time of 135.67 was good enough for 6th overall

, with Jim 9th and John 14th out of 90 runners.
FTD was set by Paul Masters in his Jedi Mk6 at 127.03 next up was Matt Hillam with 129.86, Tim Nunn 130.97, Terry Everall 131.03 and Mark Anson 132.90 who were all in Westfield’s.
On Sunday the sun came out for the majority of the day, but it was never far away from a cloud!
It was straight in to the timed runs on Sunday and once again we only managed to get three runs in! To be honest that turned out to be a blessing as it started to rain as the last few cars finished their final run. And boy did it rain!
On my first run I caught the car in front and had to take a re run. On the re run I managed to hit the tyres positioned on the inside of ‘Rocket 1’ with my nearside front wheel. This pushed the mudguard in to the tyre and required me to stop on the circuit to pull it away from the tyre. We now have a nice cut in the circumference of the tyre where the bolt holding the mudguard in place was pushed in to the tyre. We managed to repair the mudguard and Jim went out and recorded a 117.32 to top the class with John Loudon next on a 117.72 and Ian Davenport third with a 125.33. After the run we checked the car over again to make sure it was ok and found that the bolt in the bottom ball joint had bent, so we changed it for a new one!!! After the next run the top three in class were Jim on a 116.58, John on a 117.35 and me with a 118.27.
For the final run of the day I ended up with a re run again after I caught the car in front, which happened to be the Davrian. For some unknown reason the Davrian was moved in front of me for this run when it had spent all the previous ones behind me in the correct class order? Anyway the extra run did me a favour as I was able to put a decent run together to post a time of 116.38(class record) for the class win. Jim did a final of 117.27 and John a 117.75. My best time of 116.38 was good enough for 15th overall, Jim’s time of 116.58 claimed 17th overall and John’s 117.35 clinched 20th overall out of 99 runners.
FTD on Sunday was a 102.47 by John Graham in his Dallara F397
Next outing is at Three Sisters on Sunday 11th September.
Regards,
David.
