Re: Abbeville 29th March - Flames
I'll get this over with before Jeff ,who took a huge risk letting me in the car on my own , enjoys telling all
First time in the car and first time seeing Abbeville , YEP -- spun the car in the middle section and AGAIN at the same spot in the following lap
From Jeff's view on the bank , it must have been a touch worrying , I came to a halt facing the oncoming hoard of Exige's following behind me , some went one side some the other , couldn't get reverse with the 4 inch stick (shoulder torn ligaments recently -- sorry , I forgot to say Jeff
) so turn the wheel in 1st and gave it beans that seemed to get it facing clockwise ok . There were naturally one or two things not quite right for me , view to my right via the drivers door mirror , obscured some turn in points and no screen mean't my visor was shut so a little misty. I wasn't used to having a 9 or 10 inch steering wheel and Abbeville is a busy little circuit.
The car is simply awesome to drive , the power is delivered smoothly but is also brutal if pressed hard through 2nd 3rd and 4th down the straight at Abbeville . It'll let you know the wheels have spun up a bit on every gear change , even in 3rd at over 100mph getting to 4th --- just a little wiggle . Then the first corner pops into view and you need to get your foot down very hard on the brakes to drop into 3rd then 2nd for tight right/left --- not that they're lacking effect but the pedal doesn't tell you what's happening , it's just a cylinder or leverage thing ----- they do work though without drama . With enough time in the saddle , it can be driven on the throttle around short courses . I found that the sound the engine made when really on it , was very addictive . Nothing like a turbo but a brutally gorgeous sound once near the limiter
Thanks Jeff for a great day out and I'll miss that sound plus the extra 100bhp at the wheels , once back in my car on Tuesday testing at Goodwood

Glad you had fun Rob, the 2nd half spin did start to worry me
I've fixed the started motor issue from yesterday and it is good to go for tomorrow at North Weald.
