What are the differences between the Cortina and cut down escort uprights.
I believe that the Cortina uprights lower the car 25mm but have they got different KPI, caster and camber angles when compared to the escort cut down struts.
Whats better to use for a road car?

Well the Cortina are heavier but will lower the car 20mm compared to Escort not 25mm. You'll need more castor than on the Escort for high speed stability though. Escort cut downs are best for road without further castor changes regarding road use.

i believe cortina have a different lower ball joint setup. best bet for lowering from an escort is use a capri cut down up right. They have the same lower ball joint, just have different size track rod end and wheel bearings.
the stub axle hight from the ball joint is different to the escort allowing you to run the wish bone just off level and have the car lower than the escort

Re: Uprights
Im not looking at lowering the car.
I was just wondering if there is a better upright as far a geometry is concerned.
I see that caterham use a triumph upright as does the J15? Is this better in some way?

I think it is more an availability issue rather than better or worse.

That's right , definitely availability although SSC was using them before ceasing business in 2006/7 . Mainly due to their needing no modification/cut down etc and '' new '' availability PLUS really light weight.

the capri is a good setup and you can buy the hubs and stub axles new from rally design
