Mike,

It depends on you.

For me I used a different engine than everyone else as I thought it would save some cash (it probably didn't).
My set-up works nicely, I learned a lot and I enjoyed the process, but it definitely took longer and unexpected problems turned up.
I then added EFI and a turbo (just to keep me busy), but I like the challenges.

Maybe test drive a 160bhp model and see what you think, my guess is that you will be happy. Sticking with what has been designed will result in a quicker build that will be less risky and hence cheaper, but if you are going to crave more power even before you have finished then you might as well accept it now.
