If going for the belt adjust off the alternator only route and the groove pulley for the WP you need an Escort or Fiesta Pump all Mondeo pumps are the same - If keeping the back of belt running and a idler its fine as is.

The best Bellhousing is the Morgan Zetec / CVH bellhousing. - It uses a concentric actuator and allows the engine about 4 -6 inches further back.

Ok, so i'm being told by some people that water pumps from an escort will fit my engine, and some that they won't, so perhaps i'm safer just finding an idler pulley.

is that Morgan as in Morgan motor cars?

Difficult to tell , but looking at your pics you have a Silvertop, so need the escort 1.8 waterpump.

perhaps my pics aren't great, i asked my mate to take a few pics of the engine, and he did a lot of arty farty, people working shots :)

its a black plastic cam cover from a 2000 x reg mondeo, which to my mind makes it a phase 3 black top (could be wrong on the phase, but i'm 100% its a blacktop)

anyway, i'm going to investigate remounting the alternator to the right hand side of the water pump, and therefore use its pulley as an idler.

offset water pump (and the black top) definately make it a black top... :D
I enquired after the US reverse impellor, I can't remember the company but I got a quote back for silly money, get an idler pulley...
i got the idler with my engine and used that so not sure where you would get one online. I reckon your best bet is a scrapyard - might cost a fiver and won't be hard to find...

I made a custom bracket to fit the idler above the water pump but in the end my limited fabbig skills and resources got the better of me and I bought the much nicer retro ford alternator/idler bracket kit which uses a couple of extra bolt holes around the water pump which prevents movement.

If you're on a budget then the tiger racing sump is cheap as chips and shallow too. The baffling could be better but I've had no surge problems round Abingdon or Brands Hatch.

Managed to change the cambelt last night, went quite smoothly, without too much faffing with the camshaft sprockets. So much easier with an extra pair of hands.

Spent a looong time filing, trying to open up the holes in the engine mounts, to allow them to fit when offered up to the block. Also i have a feeling the design hasn't been altered since the silvertop, as the offset water pump caught the top left corner of one of them. some fun to be had with the power file here :)

engine mounts fitted we managed a trial fit with the bellhousing attached, nearside engine mount centre seems to line up with the box section and not the flat plate.

engine seems quite tall, even allowing for approx 40mm of wooden block.

bit more shopping to do now, tiger sump possibly, need an inlet manifold for some gsxr 600 TBs, need an alternator - lucas acr? and some brackets making, new aux belt and idler pulley.

Wondering the procedure for fitting gearbox and engine, not sure how practical swinging the 2 in together will be.

so nothing revolutionary, but I had a very nice weekend :)
