Re: J15 Rear Brakes
Thanks Nick, the Audi calipers are a no brainer at the price. I want to use 13" wheels though (have a set, lighter weight, better choice of tyres) and I am told the Audi ones won't fit.

Re: J15 Rear Brakes
Thanks Neil. From the dimensions I have taken it looks like I will need to remove a good deal more material from the caliper brackets than you had to.
PS Nick. What engine etc are you fitting to your J15 and where abouts are you?
Cheers David

Re: J15 Rear Brakes
Hi David
I have gone for the 1.6 zetec se. My reasoning was i get more of a kick out of being able to out corner other cars than outright speed so i didnt want the extra weight of a duratec in the back. I was going to re-condition a second hand as i did that on a previous Tiger but the prices before i replaced parts etc were to excessive so i ended up with a brand new one from powertorque for £980 it is described on the invoice as a "hot test spec" (more bhp or more fragile?) it is a little different.
I live in Boston but work in Lincoln so travel past Jeremys place every day which means i can pester him whenever i want !

Hi Nick
Sorry for the delay in replying but I have been away - to Lincolnshire believe it or not! Called in to see Jeremy while we were there. Good luck with the build. If you were in my neck of the woods - Oxon - we could have met up.
Cheers David

Re: J15 Rear Brakes
HI there,
I am in Oxford area too, and have a pair of those Audi callipers in the shed. If you want to try one for size then let me know.
At the moment I am keen to find short trips to test my new engine. Especially good if the short trip ends at a house with car building equipment!
Drop me a U2U if this is any use to you.
Matt
p.s. where in Oxon are you, I am in Yarnton.

Re: J15 Rear Brakes
David,
Good to see you today. Your build looks excellent.
Regarding your rear braking problem.
A couple of thought. The Audi carrier is compatible with the Sierra Caliper. No weight benefit unfortunately.
If that works for you then you could bolt up the calliper to the existing holes, put 10mm of washers over each wheel stud, bolt on a wheel. Does the wheel rotate or foul the calliper?
If it rotates then you just (I say just) have to find a disk that works.
Just thoughts,
Matt

Thanks for taking the trouble to bring so many brake bits with you yesterday. I need to have a play around with them and see what looks best. One of the problems I know from prior searching is to find a disc with a small enough bell diameter, which of course is not generally given as a dimension, if I am to use the lugs on the upright.
If you ever fancy a run out in the Phoenix give me a call.
I'll send a PM with my email as I'm not always so good at looking for new messages here.
Cheers David

Nick
Going back to the VW calipers - are you using the Fiesta front discs at 221 mm dia? If so have you had to modify the bracket for the sliders to get it to fit behind the disc? I have realised that with these smaller discs the VW caliper fits a 13" wheel no problems.
I seem to remember seeing some very slim brackets on the Rally Design stand at Stoneleigh but did not take too much notice of them.
Cheers David
