Its not the gearbox - thats the bellhousing ;) - the box on the back of that lump of alloy is a good old type 9.

So whats the bell-housing from? Starter fitting looks like a late Transit.

Bellhousing is aftermarket part - plenty of suppliers manufacturing - not sure if this one may be a raceline part.

whats confusing me is that my hanyes manual says a type 9 has a cable activated clutch but i can see a master cylinder in your photos. so does this depends on the bell housing?

it depends on what the builder wants to fit but yes its usual that the Bellousing dictates the clutch actuation - The one fitted uses a Concentric hydraulic actuator - Not sure what the Duratec uses as stock but would not suprise me if its a concentric.

cool thanks, i've been semi worrying about that for several months as i've seen other photos elsewhere with hydraulic pipes and wondering if i was on the right track. p.s notice ur not far away in staffs, (i'm Kidderminster) look forward to seeing ur car in the flesh in the future.

another thought has occured to me, i could possibly fit an aftermarket bell housing with hydraulic actuation if i wanted an easier clutch pedal?

The easier clutch won't be changed by going hydraulic --- it's the cylinder bore that will effect that . Mines 3/4 using a ceramic paddle and AP heavy duty cover . It's just as hard as the cable so try a 5/8ths cylinder for easier pedal.

surely any hydraulic clutch would be easier than trying to pull the clutch in via a cable on a standard type 9.
