Good seats for a track focussed Phoenix??

Postby bitsilly » Fri Jul 10, 2009 5:38 pm

Can anyone point me in the right direction of some lightweight shell/tillet type seats that fit in Phoenix?
Ideally I would like to put runners on the drivers side, but not essential.
Failing that, how on earth do you get those expanding foam seats to work!!

J K Composites 01704 569730, brilliant seats and very cheap. Not sure if they have a website but i know they do different seats for different kit cars. High back with harness holes and can be fitted with subframes for adjusting. I do have a spare adjustable subframe if you need one.

Just found their website, they look perfect, nice one!
If you think the sub frame will fit them and fit in a Phoenix I would love it thanks, must be worth a few beer vouchers. Thanks

I had real trouble getting a seat to fit my Phoenix. In the end Steve Tillett cut down a pair of seats which where trial fitted at the factory....They need bolting in though

The end result was the Tillett B3.5

They would be nice too!
Is your handbrake on the passenger side like a striker? I have only had my car a few hours, but the two sides look different, and the handbrake makes it worse.

The hand brake is in the passenger side like a Striker (and Fury). Mine was orginally a Striker and was rebodied as a Phoenix after an accident. Yours is a round tubed Stuart Taylor Phoenix isn't it ? I assume it has IRS not live axle?

I'm a fan of the JK seats, really helpful guys too.

I've been fiddling with 2-part expanding foam and it's great. I've made an insert to go between me and the GRP shell seat, and the difference it makes to the feel of the car is amazing. Previously i had a bit of space around my lower back, now I'm held in place perfectly - a recommended half way stage towards making your own seats.

My experience with the foam is -

Keep it in the house before you use it, that way it's already at 20 degrees or so. Helps it expand.
Mix in equal parts and give it a really good stir.
If you're aiming for a thin shape (like my seat inserts) pour the foam around the bag, rather than dropping it in one place.
If you are making seats, you'll need a helper to pour the foam whilst your in position.

Cheers,

Ian
