As part of the changes to the MSA requirements for ROPS (Roll Over Protection System) I need, as a minimum, a 45mm x 2.5mm CDS rollhoop with back stays. Speaking to various people about this to it seems I need to either remove the tub/weld backstays/refit tub with very long holes or cut tub top out over the top of the fueltank/diff and then weld in backstays. This new 'boot lid' could be made re-attached/removable with a ally return on the tub and some Dzus fasteners.

Can anyone think of another way to do this ? I really don't want to remove the tub as it has all the cabling running through it currently.

How big would the access hole have to be to have room to do a decent welding job?

Basically it needs to be a boot lid really. Have to be able to get in and weld the back stays and then cut the lid to fit round the stays.

Playskool are doing one for a Westfield which is 890mm between the hoop, 475mm high and 920 between the backstays. Which is pretty much spot on for the Phoenix. £260 !

Does the 920 for the back stays mean they line up with the Phoenix chassis at the attachment point under the tub/shell? Can you make a bolted connection to the chassis instead of having to weld in-situ? (ie fabricate a chassis attachment bracket to suit & bolt in place)
The angle of the back stays looks to be quite steep, so maybe a hole either side wouldn't have to be so elongated

They have to be welded in I believe. I don't know, yet, if the rear stays will fit.
