Hello All, I recently purchased a 1997 Fury Classic with the Toyota 4A GZE as a 95% completed stalled project-I tried some years ago to buy a Fury from the "US distributor"a very ineffective representative-no calls returned-a time waster. Anyhow interested in other US Fury owners, if any-or some guess as to how many may be on this side of the pond??

Life with cars
Hi All, At age now 63-I thought that simplicity in longer term car enjoyment was with my MX5 1991 BRG with supercharger-great balance-you can leave in ungaraged-and replaceable for "minor" dollars. I had been impressed with the Fury for some time-but difficult to buy here.
My addiction and education over time included London Built Allards and a Mercury GT, Mk8 Lotus,, Elise ,Elans, Westfield, Caterham, S2/7 and a DSK7 with a Cosworth YBM-TVRs, MGs, TR3s XK120, and more-a simple private buyer-poo pooed the MX5 as an Elan wanabe-but they are not the worlds favorite sportscars without cause.
Anyhow the MX% thing had left me with to much spare time and an empty garage-then after "years" of not looking-being happy with what I had this Fury came alone on one of the 7 websites at a truly "gift price"-so as quick as funds can be sent over wire-deal made, sight unseen and delivered to my home overnight-this assembled pile of stuff appeared. Finished in clear gelcoat, LHD, Formula Atlantic Toyota 4A GZE 12 pounds boost-the paperwork indicating about $30,000 worth of investment.Like I said a gift.
The Fury order sheet was checked with every option-carpets, hardtop, 4.11 gears/LSD, alloy diff carrier, alloy hubs, and then enhanced with wilwood brakes, guick rack, Panasport 15 inch wheels, tilton controls, Fuel cell, Close ratio transmission gears- I think it might be the first LHD car built-it came with enough paperwork to get it tagged and titled n Maryland-outside of Washington DC-where I live along the Potomac River and enjoy the curvy roads.
After getting the car-I pondered the paint choices-tempted to do the Lotus Krypton Green from my 06 Elise, or the BRG of my MX5-but recalling an Triumph Spitfire ad from years ago where they did a camo job with RAF roundrels on the doors-why not! The satin/flat finishes are in vogue here for the hot rod folks-so spraying it myself in Speedway Satin Hot Rod Green-with WW2 250mm RAF roundrels (with the yellow outer ring) on the doors-it looks like fun.
So one question-the order sheet from 1997 has the "lightweight" option on this car--what would that mean-most of the fiberglass is fairly heavy-
Well thats my story-all I need to do between now and running is figure out the programable computer and wide band stuff-the new school stuff-install the elan windscreen and dash-fix the leather seats to the floor and ROAR!

Sounds like a good package, not sure what the lightweight option was but am sure someone will be along to confirm. Keep up posted we like a good build story.

Lightweight cold refer to a couple of things...
The lightweight chassis option which has ally floors and passenger footwell (and rear panels?) rather than steel. Some (later) light weight chassis also used thinner walled tubes but I don't know when that started
The lightweight GRP. Difficult to be sure on that as there were 3 weights (standard, light and race) and the quality of the GRP has varied depending on where/when it was made. The issues were with KitCarWorkshop produced cars and the GRP company they used. The race version is very flimsey.
