Are you sure you want a 4.1 for the road? What size wheels and gearbox are you using?

I think it is very dependent on how you drive and what you want out of it. I ran a 4.4 in mine that topped at 130 but was quick off the mark. for road most seem to go with the 3.9 but I am sure others will be along to help out as well.
the question is how does the 3.5 drive for you?
remember its never fast enough

going to a 4.1 will definitely make it a quick off the mark, I would go for it but do not spend too much on one just in case its not to your liking, there are a couple on ebay at the moment?

A 4-1 is a good compromise for road , giving a little lower top end but quicker getting there , especially with a smallish size , lowish powered car . If you had a S Charger on it then 3.54 would be fine for road OR a nice V8 lump .
I started with 14 inch wheels and a 3.89 plus 165bhp and CR box which seemed pretty quick after a tintop BUT quickly moved to a 4.4 when road driving was off the agenda

You can look at it scientifically with the aid of
http://locost7.info/gearcalc.phpRemember that any Se7en is going to need a *lot* of power to exceed 130mph (very unlikely with a 4A-GE).
Most of the better 1600cc sprinters use 4.4, 4.7 or even 5.1 diffs -- but if you are primarily looking at road use, a 4.1 might be more relaxing.

i have done the deal now and the 4.1 diff will be with me later on in the week so i will wait until the sun goes missing (not long to wait !!!) and then change it and see how i get on.
many thanks for all your comments
