Rebuild of Striker

Postby HighOnThunder » Tue Jun 19, 2018 10:50 pm

I asked RAW for a quotation on a (partial) rebuild of my Striker, but they are too busy to reply it seems.

So who else, which company or individual, could I trust with doing a rebuild? The reality is I lack the space, skill and motivation to do it myself, but I am also on a budget, so the hourly rate has to be reasonable, while the quality remains.

Have you rung them or just emailed? Generally phoning is better with them but it might take a few attempts to get through.

As logical as it seems, I have not rung them, I don't like chasing people, it's the world upside down. Maybe I'm being silly, but if they don't wish to answer e-mails, they shouldn't put an e-mail adress on their website under Contact. Besides, the e-mail contains a list of the current set-up and my wishes, they can look at it and reflect and reply at a time that is convenient to them. That's the whole point of e-mail, if you ask me.

I'd have to call them and beg to please look at my e-mail so I can potentially contribute in keeping your business afloat? :x

I'd rather find someone who is enthusiastic about taking on a job, who can appreciate the turnover. Even if it is a 'private' person looking for a new project in his spare time while making some cash doing it.

I don't disagree in anything you have said but in my experience I have had to chase them on some occasions (but not all, they have also responded to emails sometimes) and also had the same with Fury Sportscars. If I did not chase them then I would still be sitting her waiting and I don't have time for that, if the car needs work or parts then it is me missing out by not chasing. Often with these small businesses it is he who shouts loudest that gets the attention, not saying that is right but that is how it is.

I drive within half a mile of Fury on my way home from work so they are not unaccustomed to me just popping in but otherwise they too do not answer phone/emails that often and need chasing.

Also found the same 'level' of service with BGH.

In order to suggest anyone else where are you located?

I get your point, it often works that way, but the rebuild is not actually necessary, the car is fine except for some possibly harmless drivetrain lash.
I'd just like the idea of a fresh chassis, and switch to IRS at the same time (while retaining the chassis code).
I am actually in Holland, so the location is not that important. It would have to be transported anyway.
There is an ex-Striker importer here that actually partially rebuild my car in the past, but I hear he likes to tell you it will cost XXXX and in the end you end up paying double or triple because of all sorts of 'unforeseen' work.
Of course I'd prefer RAW as they are the specialists (also for my 4AGE 20V engine), but I'm not ready to chase them just yet. And perhaps there are other Striker specialists out there?

I recently needed a new bonnet for my striker and after waiting a week for an email answer I rang them and got an answer after three calls. My order was placed on the phone and was ready for collection within two weeks and was a very well made item.

I think the problem as has been mentioned is that Raw cars is now more or less a one man business and kit cars is very much towards the smaller end of the business with classic car maintenance being where the most work is done.

When I collected my bonnet I was warmly welcomed and shown round the facility, I was told that the kit car market has almost dried up and that side of the business comes mostly from providing spare parts.

I hope this gives you an idea of what is happening, I agree you should not have to chase people to give them your business but unfortunately that is how it is.

Thanks for the insight, David (van Gils, Dutch acenstry?)
Well there will never be a lack of classic cars to maintain, so in that sense they'll stay busy.

Yes my Grand parents came to England when the first sugar beet processing plant was built in the UK with Dutch backing.

Could they be the same family as this 'since 1882' Dutch sugar beet giant? https://vangilse.nl/natuurlijk/

My Dad did some research and is fairly sure there is no connection nor to the fashion house of the same name. :(
