I am having a bit of a 'mare getting the front together on the striker, as the wilwood calipers and bracket do not align up correctly over the disk - they are out by about 5mm, and in the wrong direction (ie. it is not a case of shimming).
Now, I could have (read, probably have) been an idiot when putting this all together, but I need to know if I am looking at the brackets or the hubs/disks. So, I would like to try some standard M16 calipers on my uprights to see if they go on ok - if they do, it's the brackets, if they don't, it's the hubs.
So, does anybody close to Oxford/Newbury/Reading have some M16 calipers I could borrow for a day to check out my front end please?
Thanks
Tom

Hi Tom, if you have no joy in your search then it may well be worth posting a few photos on here for the collective to see and give their opinions

Re: M16 Calipers to borrow
Good idea.
I am trying to take meaningful photos that show the problem, but with no joy. However, I suspect I may have found the problem in that the discs are wrong - their diameter is a bit too large (I believe 244mm is the standard disc size), and I suspect the offset is also incorrect with them being the wrong discs. Hopefully RD will confirm in the next few days.
Thanks
Tom

If you have powerlites they're good for 279.4 mm dia discs.

What size wheels are you using. As unless youre using force racing wheels you might not be able to go too big on disc size.

Force Racing Wheels Here is our newest project, we are developing a super big brake conversion to fit niside our wheels, its close but they fit with 3mm clearance to the rim, these disks are 287mm or 11 1/4" dia ,
I have asked the question here.

You could probably move the calliper out another 8mm max so 276mm at the most
Like AdiT said in the pistonheads thread you dont what to run the calliper too close to the rim as stones could catch also someone else said the any play in the hub bearings could end up a big problem if running tight tolerances. I wouldn't go less than 5mm from calliper to rim. Easily measured by running drill bits round the gap.
@w4lrus any update on this??

Re: M16 Calipers to borrow
Sorry for the radio silence, I have been away, both from the internet and the garage!
I was originally going to fit 15" rims, but after speaking with a few guys at Stoneleigh, I will try for 13" as long as I can get the rear lower wishbones and uprights to play ball. I am looking at Force Racing Wheels if I can save enough pennies.
I am still waiting to hear from Rally Design as to which diameter discs they intend to be used with the brackets they supplied in the kit. I am convinced the discs are wrong, both in diameter and in offset, and hopefully I will have that confirmed this week.

Re: M16 Calipers to borrow
Final update on this:
I loaded an upright and the brackets, calipers, hubs and discs into the car and drove over to Rally Design today so that they could take a look. It turned out that the brackets were wrong, and new brackets solved both the offset and diameter issues. So, after an evening in the garage, I now have 265mm discs and Powerlites calipers fitted correctly
Thanks for all the comments, very helpful, and it's good to know that there are people out there that are prepared to be patient with my stupid questions
