Car stopped at a junction during a run out today. Odd metallic noise and then it stopped. Tried to restart it and the same noise.....hopped out and lifted the bonnet to find the idler pulley has come away from its bearing which has allowed the cambelt to jump teeth.

The metallic noise will be pound notes down the drain on replacement pistons, valves and damaged head.

Some phone calls to make Monday morning but I doubt I'll get very far with the complaining....anyone want to rebuilt the top end of my car?

that is not good news, is this a failure of component or a loose bolt? It's been a bit of a roller coaster for you this year!!!

If you paid to have it built with that spec pulley complete with fixings THEN you've every right to complain OR did you decide the pulley etc

Ouch, pretty much what happened to mine back in March, although mine was a '95 silver top so rather older than yours! Replacing it with a brand new blacktop... work still in progress nearly 6 months later...

Hope you get it sorted rather quicker than me, must be frustrating having spent so much on getting it up and running...

You can see the failure of the idler pulley which has allowed the cambelt to jump in the pictures. Without the Supercharger frame I think it would have been gone completely.

Thats a real arse

It's things like this that make me want to stick with my old, and so far reliable, 140bhp (ish) Fiat TC and not worry about changing it for something with more power

I don't use the idler , both Raceline and Dunnell said it wouldn't take the extra rev's on a tuned engine long term Such a lot of damage for one stupid bit of kit

It appears to have come undone.....you can see the bolt hole just above it in the picture.
