Tensioner pulley outer (plastic) was found inside the cambelt cover in 4 pieces, strangely the metal inner part is still in the correct place and rotating freely so it hadn't seized, the outer has just shattered and parted company.
Checked cams and they are ~180 deg out of phase with each other, lots of the tappets are stuck down, so there is some valve bending going on...
Looking at going down the brand new blacktop zetec route, seems a good time to upgrade to a 2.0... 'every cloud...'
