The mojo will need some new boots in the next few months (Llandow will probably just about finish them off I imagine...)

Despite loads of previous chat on this subject, I'm struggling to know what to go for. All advice appreciated.

Currently run Yoko A539s which fitted the bill fine but are no longer available. They have lasted about 23k miles.

Stipulations are:

185/60 R14
Reasonable life (15k + miles)
Suitable for year-round use in all weathers

The size seems to be a restriction as lots recommendations now seem to be 15" minimum.

AO21rs would work but I guess would be worn out in 5k... and I can't afford a set every 9months!

Thoughts...???

I wanted 539s on the Fury, but ended up with the new Yoko "C-drive" I'm a bit of a novice to Sylvadom, but the seem pretty good to me & are the 185/60x14 you were looking for. I've nothing to compare them to though I'm affraid. I've done 1300 miles & there's no sign of tyre wear yet.

The only down side is that the tread pattern looks a bit boring.

Your mileage requirement probably rules out any MSA List 1B tyres (AO48, R888, V70A, ACB10).

My immediate reaction would have been Bridgestone Potenza RE720, with which I've had good experience on 14x6 wheels. Unfortunately, Bridgestone Europe seem to have discontinued them. So, one of the grippiest tyre available for 14" which is also going to get you 15+k miles is the Toyo Proxes T1R -- but it's only available in lower profiles. However, the 195/55-14 (will fit on 6" rims) will lower your gearing by only 1.3% and your ride height by ca. 3mm, so you might be able to accommodate it.

I'm sure you know that the range of tyres available for 15" wheels is enormously greater than the 14" offer, and that the circumference of 195/50-15 is virtually identical to your existing 185/60-14. If you did change to 15" wheels, the tyre to look at (used by most "1A" strinters) is the Marangoni Zeta Linea.

I am looking for new tyres for my Striker. I want the best grip I can get with a road legal tyre, and they have to last 3,000 miles p.a. Tyre size is 185/60 R13, and I don't want to spend more than £90 a tyre.

They need to be non-suicidal in the wet, but the only time I would drive in the wet would be a trackday. They will mostly be used for playing on the road, plus the odd trackday.

Current favourites are A048 medium compound, but keen to hear what else other people recommend.

Hi David,
yep the RE720s, Toyos and the Marangonis are all tyres that I've heard about, really don't want to go to 15s though... and didn't really want to go up to 195 width as might then mean messing with rear arches and cycle wings to get them to fit (clearances pretty tight at the moment!).

Still waiting in hope for a good 14" option... but cheers for the help!

Just a quick comment on Yoko A048's. Superb in warm, dry conditions, rubbish in warm wet conditions, dangerous in the cold!

032r are pretty good....drove to the Ring in the pouring rain (not happy but not really scary).

I went from the A539 to the newer Parada2. I've only used them on the road, but they seem ok to me! I'm not sure if they're available in 14" though?
