Fury Front Brakes

Bought a Fury a few months ago and recently joined the forum to get some ideas on updating the front brakes. They don't seem as good as I would expect, any thoughts appreciated, the details are:-
1 Existing brakes are believed to be std Escort
2 RS 2000 wheels
3 Car will be used for road use only (possibly some track days)
4 Year of build, 2004
5 Was thinking of changing discs and calipers

I have standard Mk2 Escort setup on my Striker, and they are fine for road and trackdays.

Brakes are pretty simple and if the discs and callipers are in good order then its just down to pedal leverages and master cylinder diameters.
First off work out the pedal leverage. 4.5 : 1 is what you are looking for.

If you're not used to none servo assited brakes then they will take some getting used to.
As well as discs and calipers, the pad and the master cylinder will effect the feel. Is it tandem master cylinder or twin with bias bar? If it's a tandem one then swapping for a cylinder from a none servo car (mk1 fiesta) will improve the feel. Something like Mintex 1144 pads can also help.

Your right about the servo assistance (i've been pampered in the past). I'll check the master cyl arrangement tomorrow. I had a look at the callipers yesterday and one side seemed to be sticking (freed it as much as I could). I need to see how it goes over the next couple of weeks. Thanks for the tip concerning the pads.

Before considering the disc/caliper swap , get yourself some Hawk Black or DTC30 pads from Cambridge Motorsport and if they don't slow you up quick enough I'd be VERY surprised

Rob thanks and to previous replier the master cyl are twin with bias bar. Concerning pads, I'll decide if I change them and what to.

I'd try different pads and give yourself time to get used to the extra force required for non-servo brakes. It took me a while, but I much prefer the more positive feel of them now to servo brakes.

Do the twin master cylinders have bore sizes on them? They're usualy cast or stamped on the side.
