So....I have a live axle Phoenix which will not take anything larger than a 185/60 R13 tyre on a 7J rim. I was over at Fury Sportscars today with Steve discussing this with him (really looking to get the Fury arch extensions) when we started discussing using part of a Fury Spyder body to create a wide bodied Phoenix. My Phoenix is 60" from wheel arch to wheel arch on the rear but a Fury Spyder is 64" So the idea is to use the arch from the Fury and merge it into the body of the Phoenix to produce the WBP

So plans are afoot for a winter project which should allow me to run 8J wheels with 215 section tyres

That will be an interesting option Jeff, be careful with getting too much grip on the rear as I have just learned an expensive lesson with mine. I had 9x15 on the back of my striker with 245/40/15 cr500s on.
First thing to break where the drive shafts, they snapped twice, diff seems to be OK but the next week link was the gearbox. Just got it back from the rebuild and it is virtually a new box as most bits where broken. Spoke to the guys at procomp who said I should not got over 205s for the striker?

I have opted for 195s all round so will have to see what happens I know people do put larger tires on and wonder if anyone else had had any problems with them?

Even 205's can be enough to snap half shafts , particularly the variety we all use (old secondhand ?) . Mine snapped on the startline at Curborough after uprating the engine so were replaced with Quaife two piece . To be fair , if you consider the probable mileage of Escort M2 halfshafts before we even built our cars , it's not surprising they give out under harsh provocation. My gearbox had to be rebuilt around the same time ---- I was very lucky that Brian had a Caterham mainshaft on the shelf at a very reduced price but he uprated the lot as well . So what I have now is a stronger Caterham type 9 circuit box------ even then he only reckoned it could deal with 250bhp max which I don't have so hopefully it'll stay the course
Having a supercharger will put box and shafts at greater pressure than high bhp ie. torque Haven't you got the 4age supercharged now Simon

yes with the supercharger the engine puts out 274bhp looks like the box will take a bit of a battering but my only option up from this a dogbox and at £3000 its not on the cards yet. The drive shafts have been specially made as my new car uses a subaru diff and are surposed to be unbreakable
