I'm in the process of finishing off my winter upgrades to car. I've had two days off work to do some wiring !

Back of the dash with the wiring

Much tidier :)

gives me a headache ! And this was after spending 6 hrs on it

Expensive Powerspeeed exhaust which is ceramic coated and very nice.

new Rad

New wheels & brakes

Dash test fitted, most of it works (including the tacho). Need to wire in the DL1 for the oil temp, oil pressure, speed (from GPS) as well as the link the the Omex ECU for other parameters)

So after another couple of hours this evening the following works (bare in mind that I've a large pile of redundant cables !)

Horn.....check
Sidelights, Dip & Main....check
Indicators left & right.....check
Hazard......check
Fog light.....check
Fan override......check
Alternator light......nope :(
FIA Switch......check
Starter Button.....check
Engine......oooohhhh yes
Dash2.......check with revs and everything !

So need to sort out the alternator, fit a potentiometer to be able to alter the switch lights intensity (flash heh :)) and then fit and set to work the DL1

Happy Man :)

I'll continue to talk to myself :)

Starting to finish off

Very nice Jeff. Using a label maker to mark the cables is a bit flash.

I know....but trying to find out what they are later when I haven't colour coded them would be a pain. Never guess I was a Electronics Engineering Apprentice, back in the day !

I am most impressed with the rotary pot to control the dash lighting brightness...just like on my Audi :)

Jeff
Water Temp question, I have just installed a Zetec SE with OMEX 600, which uses Water temp sensor, but I want my gauge to work as well, how have you got the info from the ECU or did you double up on the wiring form sensors?
Otherwise I am impressed with the result.

Basically the Dash2/DL1 can connect to the Omex and read telemetry from the ECU. So I have 12 parameters I can display and log.

Air temperature
Air pressure
Battery voltage
Fuel injector 1 pulse width
Ignition angle
RPM
Boost pressure
Water temperature
Lambda1
Throttle percent
Lambda2
Tyre Temp 1

Now you would obviously need some sensors for the ECU (MAP and wideband lamda) to get all the data but I can see air temp, battery voltage, water temp, throttle, ign angle and so on. The Dash2 has 4 additional analogue channels and the DL1 has 8 analogue + 4 frequency. I have oil pressure, oil temp & fuel currently. I also get GPS speed, G readings & lon/lat & time.

Very cool stuff.

In answer to your question you can probable connect the Temp gauge up into the same wire as the ECU for the temp sender.

Jeff,

This is all too fancy for me. Carbon fibre, expensive exhausts, labelled loom, now you are scaring me.

I am hinking about scrambling in the mud to replicate your "air dam", and building up a new engine since I cracked a barrel from detonation (I was running 7psi with a CR of >13, so I guess it was inevitable).

At least its an opportunity to increase the capacity (1146cc yesterday 1192cc tomorrow). For what its worth it wasn't the recycled gasket that went (Adi), although it was leaking a fair amount of oil (1litre per 100miles at the last count).

Really looking forward to this year. When are we all going to meet up?

Matt

I've been watching with sympathy re the wiring Jeff , it's not nearly so satisfying as mechanical and bodywork tasks . Definitely a good idea to label though . I wired mine up via an instruction sheet supplied by the loom manufacturer in 1998 so would never remember what's what if I hadn't labelled everything . I see you're running 21R's --- I seem to remember youhad R888's when I saw it last at N Weald .
