I just purchased a yellow Phoenix (see new member introductions).

The car needs discs all around. It was a striker in a previous life and has a inboard rocking arm, with solid discs (and escort lower arm arrangement) on the front. The rear has a live axle which has solid discs and was supplied 'reconn'd' by Fisher SC's. It appears that the rear caliper bleed nipples face downwards if this gives a clue. Does anyone have any idea what the discs are off. I want to get them replaced today so going to pull them off later,

Live axles were drum originally, but disks are an upgrade that people do.

Likely to be a Sierra calliper. Disk is more difficult to guess. Likely to be ford (as that will be the right bolt pattern).
What is the disk diameter? 252mm = Sierra, 240mm = Escort Mk3 (front) or Fiesta (not sure which model front), these have different offsets.

Local motorfactor should have all of these, easiest to take one off, take it in and get them to match it.

If you like DIY internet research then the www.brakesint.co.uk site (in the shop) has dimensioned drawings of nearly all these parts.

The discs on the back will rescue, just need a wire brush down. The odd thing is the (Sierra I guess) rear callipers seem to be upside down, the bleed nipple faces down, the hand brake cable up. I'm wondering if I can rotate them around, so they're in the right orientation.

The front’s have a separate bolt on steering arm, did I read somewhere this maybe Capri? The discs have to be removed once the hub has been removed. They’re 217 x 8mm, nice and small! No idea at this stage what they’re off.

I have pics, will post later. Yes I forgot about brakes int, I've used them before, they're good!

It's common on kits (not just Sylvas) for Sierra rear calipers to be mounted upside down. The ford fitting is on the rear of the hub and the kit fitting is to the front.The reason is to get a better alignment for the handbrake cable. No idea why the left caliper isn't fitted to the right and visa-versa though; That'd put the bleed nipples at the top. If you ever have to bleed the brakes you'll have to remove the calipers and tip them the rigth way up.

I didn't get any pics of the rear but there are some below. The rears are mounted on the rear of the axle not the front. I can't see any reason why they couldn't be mounted the right way around.
About to search for the front discs. .. . .

That front hub isn't capri. Capri is a cut down MacPherson strut.

Don't know what it is though. Someone will recognise it though.

It looks like it was made specially, as it does not appear to have been cut down from something bigger, and it looks very light.

Is there any writing or any marks on it Phil ?
