Phoenix - Lola Mk1

Since RAW have allowed the Phoenix to live up to its name I thought it would be interesting to see where (I believe) the shape came from....the 1959 Lola Mk1. This will give Lee some ideas for his retro look :) There is an interesting article here
http://www.lolaheritage.co.uk/history/types/mk1/mk1.htm

Amazing to think, with a Coventry Climax 1100cc engine the the car was 368Kg without fuel, you would struggle to get close to that today with a BEC fitted. Not bad for 1959!

Light with an Ali body too.

I've looked closely at the chassis at Goodwood revival over the years.
The asymmetric round tube chassis & mechanical packaging is an automotive work of art.

Would be on my lottery list - they go for £100k+ now.
IIRC Lord March's personal mk1 went for £130k a couple of years back.

That is one of my top ten fave cars, but unfortunately £100K+ is a bit beyond a plumber. Fortunately, JP designed the Phoenix for us poor boys!

I am struck by how close to the Ginetta G4 they are - But to be honest there are many cars from the late 50's early 60's that follow all of the styling trends of the Pheonix and Fury etc.

Nice, but at £100,000+ I'd not use/drive it the same as I do the Fury.

The Phoenix does look like the era it is meant to represent but it was based on the Lola MK1 rather than the G4. Mind you I always wanted a G12 :)

This is turning into a car-porn thread for me.

I went with my mate Chris to test drive and buy a Dare / Ginetta G4 from Paul Stephens cars, £15k. He had just sold his Ferrari 355 and had the cash on him... And he didn't like it!! I could have twatted him! Stunning, silver convertible with red leather. Now drives a Focus ST.... :o

The Lola Mk1 was famed for being the first "sportscar" to lap Brands Indy in under 1 minute. We take that for granted nowdays, even my shopping-trolly Libra could do it comfortably!! Having a real one would be nice but as stated you could not really use it, so lets be happy with our Sylvas.
