caliper upgrade selection

Postby Fizzer » Fri Dec 24, 2010 12:44 pm

Hi All, merry christmas for tomorrow!

I was thinking about a chistmas present for the Fury, namely a brake upgrade.
I've got escort upgrights, M16 calipers, solid disks and 13" laser wheels

I was wondering what people's experience with wilwood were. Are the powerlight M16 replacement a good options?
What's the difference between powerlight and midlight?
Will they clear my wheels?
Is there an easy way (without a thread gauge) to tell if I have metric or unf bolts? (I didn't build the car, so don't know the donor car, however it's on an age related V plate)
I'm thinking of a vented disk upgrade also, has anyone had any issues with this?
I'm really happy with my mintex 1144 pads, does anyone know what part number fits the powerlights above?

Sorry for all the n00b questions :)

Thnx

Andy

Hi
I have the Rally Design Catalogue (2010) on page 23 there is a table giving calliper against application and wheel size.
Escort/RS Capri with M16 mounting the powerlite with solid disk is OK with 13 inch wheels, Powerlight is drop forged but no dust seals.
The Midilite has larger pads and is only listed with the vented disks and should fit with 13 inch wheels, It is described as drop forged from a billet, and has dust seals.
Vented versus plain disks? Vented more unsprung weight ! and are not usually needed unless you find the brakes over-heating.
I like the idea of the group N Disks from Maxtorq also from Rally Design, £38-27 !
Anyone had any experience of them.
