The car is at Powerspeed getting a new exhaust. It is off to get ceramic coated next week. Looking very smart

Saw your Phoenix down at Powerspeed. Just dropped my '67 Alfa Sprint GT down for its new turbo exhaust system.

Seems a shame to coat those nice shiney pipes, will the pod not get overly hot if you insulate the headers?

Going to ceramic coat the whole system (apart from the silencer can). The system is buried in the sidepod anyway and as the coating reduces the temp by 33% I think it is worth doing.

Only problem I can see is if the exhaust develops a leak, them the escaping gasses will be very hot.

FWIW, Phoenix sidepod is quite a lot larger than the Fury sidepod, so generally you get quite a bit more space around the silencer.

Line the inside of the sidepod with the normal heat reflective stuff (like you have already), encourage good airflow through the pod (engine bay floor, open end on pod, possibly extra holes on the underside), and always be aware of unexpected smells.

With those big exhausts, if they are packed full of stuff then the outside doesn't even get very hot (fibreglass is a great insulator).

Normally talk of wrapping headers brings out a few horror stories, but I have no practical experience.

This is ceramic coating (http://www.zircotec.com/) by not wrapping. Everything except the can itself will be coated (primaries, collector, end caps & tailpipe). There is heat reflective mat in the sidepod, the pod is open to the air at the front and has holes underneath.

So this is the exhaust with the coating on it
