Fury diff

While starting to remove the rear end in order to change the diff from a 3.9 to a 3.6 I found it isn't possible to lower it out. Any advice to what method is easiest as it seems almost impossible in the fury with the body fitted.

Live axle or IRS ?

If its IRS. I remember being told to rotate it around the axis of the axle, and then take it out the bottom.
I haven't yet tried it myself.
Wear scruffy clothes as diff oil stinks.

Hi all and cheers for the replys. It's a IRS fury. Just does not look like enough room to turn it on it's axis either, maybe imbed to get underneath it again, but it would seem like madness if u couldn't easily change the diff .

I've had mine out a couple of times through the bottom with only striping out the shafts. Turned it rear end down and rotated 90' so the outputs were front/rear then lowered it out. It's a freelander diff though so smaller than the Sierra one.

Anyone gone from a 3.9 to a 3.62 and noticed much change?

Don't try to get out of it now! These sound like my kind of avoidance tactics.
I don't know what engine, gearbox and wheel size.
I seriously doubt you have a gsxr1100 on 14inch wheel with a 3.14 diff, so I won't know the answer, but someone might.

Avoidance tactics , yeah does sound a bit like not wanting to lay over the drive in the ice!
I have a 2.0 silvertop , 2.0 sierra type 9 on 15" road wheel and 13" track wheels so if anyone has an idea please let me know as I would rather not change it for he trackday ! Well not this year anyway.

Sounds very similar to my old spec, although mine is 3.89 live axle.
My standard spec 2ltr silvertop/type9 was really good on 3.89 with ATB LSD, if anything though more track use was sending me towards 4.1 or 4.44 diff ratio - ie faster acceleration, lower top end.
Never got anywhere near the 5th gear rev limit at places like Snetterton.
For my money a 3.62 turns it into a long geared motorway cruiser, higher top end, slower getting there, but also less revs at 70

in 5th.
Choices Choices for your intended main use - road or track ??
Either way, you're still way quicker than most normal cars
