Accellerator Pedal and throttle body

Accellerator Pedal and throttle body

I fitted the cable for the accelerator pedal at the weekend and was initially dead chuffed with myself until I bent the pedal!
It feels more like depressing a clutch than an accelerator pedal!
I've checked that the cable runs freely within the outer tube, which it does.
I've fitted a new throttle body as part of my build, the spring on the butterfly is incredibly strong!
The only thing that I've done wrong is to pivot the pedal mid-way, hence leverage might be the problem.

Can anyone give me suggestions on what's wrong. Surely it shouldn't take so much effort!?

I've never seen a throttle pedal with a 1:1 ratio so thats probable the problem. How much travel have you got on the pedal? It's probably not just heavy but also pertty sensitive.

Can anyone suggest a reasonable ratio?

plus silly question, many pedals seem to have springs attached, are these to return the accelerator to off?
If so, I think I can rely on just the throttle body spring!

For the ratio, you need to measure the linear cable movement between the zero and 100% positions on the TBs, and then decide how much pedal movement you want -- you have the ratio you need.

I really would not recommend leaving out the return spring. Give your system as little chance of jamming open as possible!

I would estimate 1:4, on my bike throttle bodies. But it depends on the length of travel of the throttle cable from closed to open and the amount of pedal travel that you like.

If you are not sure what pedal travel, then measure it on your favourite tin-top. Their guess won't be a bad one.

I've bitten the bullet and bought an accelerator pedal off a Civic with the same type of throtte body from fleebay!
