IB5 Gearbox

Postby deecee » Thu Mar 18, 2010 7:18 pm

Hi
I am planning the build of a J15 with a 2 li Duratec and aiming for 200 bhp. Use will be mainly sprinting and track days. The IB5 box from the Fiesta ST150 fits but I am getting conflicting views about its strength. I believe Paul Collingwood has a powerful Sigma in his Riot. Anyone know what box he uses and if it has fancy internals?

Quaife tell me that their straight cut synchro kit will cope with 200 bhp but a noted transmission man suggested that I ought to go for either the MTX75 or Getrag six speed box to be safe. Are these boxes heavier and bulkier though?

What experience does anyone have with the IB5 box?

Cheers David

IB5 is standard duty, so if you want to be sure, get a Duratec MTX75, make sure its from a duratec powered mondeo as the earlier generations mondeo's and escorts also have a MTX-75 but with a boltpattern of the zetec

hi
my riot is running with a IB5 gearbox it was built for a ford puma rally car so is close ratio and also a LSD but they are all from the ford parts bin as far as I am aware.
touch wood I have had no problem so far
don't no if the extra torque of a 2 litre engine would cause any problems

Also, don't believe the MTX75 will fit without chassis mods...

As far as I'm aware, all Ford powered Mojos (including mine) run the IB5 or earlier BC gearbox, without any major probs...

Thanks Paul & Neil
Neil, what power/torque is attached to your IB5 and do you compete with it?
Paul, am I correct in thinking you compete in your car?
