Its at the top of my list of cars to build. I havent built a car from scratch since 1995 so soon be time to do one again. Perhaps a track orientated one with a full cage and some kind of Jap engine would be nice, or would a Duranail fit, mmmmmm ?

How about a 2009 Hayabusa engine with 194 HP, six speed sequential trans and very low weight?

Jeff -
I've actually had a few requests for a Honda engine here in the US.
I believe that the customer requests backed up by actual deposits will drive build configurations.
Chet
PS - I saw an article recently that Ford is bringing the new Ford Fiesta to the US with a 1.6 engine. Sigma?

Certainly a V-tec engine will suit a light car and with the right exhaust, can sound like a race car. The Type R engines are amazing pieces of engineering.

Driven an S2 Elise with a type R engine and box but was a bit underwhelmed to be honest. Probably better in a car with 400 kilos less to haul around though.
I had an S1 Elise with an audi 1.8T with six speed box which was around 280bhp and a mountain of torque from 1500 rpm , but I think a revvy lighter unit would be the way to go in something like this. The Elise was mental on the road but lacked something when on track, or maybe my talent wasnt up to the cars potential. I would think 210hp would be more than enough in a Spectre. Must admit I do like the Duranail but I know they are quite a tall engine. Followed an S1 Elise round the Le Mans circuit for a couple of laps in the summer and was well impressed with the power and its delivery.Trouble is I would probably have to get rid of my Striker as I couldnt really justify two kit cars. Perhaps next month the man with the bowler hat will call from the bonds.

I'm the one that made the suggestion to Jeff about the V-tec. The deal is they are EVERYWHERE here in the States and we import them buy the boat load from Japan. If all you want is 160 HP, the for $1000 buck or so, you're in. If you want 200-210 HP, and and LSD, and 8700 RPM, it will set you back a bit, but when you look at what it takes to get a Zetec to that level, it's nuts. There is a lot of variation within the engine families, Type Rs are really nice, high revving but they run a bit more. Obviously LSD costs extra, but it's available (and when you subtract what a Quaife sells for, it's not so bad to get it with the engine). Personally, I think the B18C would be plenty, and would rev till the cows come home and is available in an LSD! I keep hearing that the Duratec is going to be the next big deal, but there is just not that many people;e working on them over here, whereas there are tons of guys tuning the Hondas. I don't think it would be a big deal to import some of the spindles and whatnot, but it would be nice to source the engine domestically.
B16A 160-170 HP, 116 Ft-Lb, 7600-7800 rpm redline
B18C 180-210 HP, 134 Ft-Lb, 7600-8900 rpm redline
K20A 200-220 HP, 152 Ft-Lb, 7900 rpm redline
H22A 200-220 HP, 153 Ft-Lb, 7200 rpm redline
BTW, I have money -- just waiting to hear how the US 'conversion' is coming...
