Striker BEC conversion

Postby davspeed » Mon Oct 01, 2018 12:04 pm

I thought as I have had this car for nearly two years and it is getting there I had better share a few pictures. There is still work to do, mainly tidying up and redoing jobs I'm not happy with, the main one being the paint as I was doing it during the heatwave and had lots of problems.

When I got it with an unrun 1700cc crosflow in it.

I decided to fit a new three piece rear end as the old one had damage and wasn't really wide enough.

Engine in and running, I will re wire the engine loom shortly to move the ECU to the bulkhead and tidy it up. I wanted to make sure it ran before chopping it about too much.

Looks nice, interesting mounting for the 2nd set of injectors.

Looks good, have you got any track days in mind yet?

Edit, just noticed you have the same rear fog light as me. Despite fitting it as tight as possible mine fell off on the way home from work once and smashed itself to pieces, come the next MOT they confirmed I didn't need one and so I have just left it off ;)

I was booked in for the CKC magazine at Blyton but teething problems got in the way plus not having driven this type of car for about fourteen years it came as quite a surprise when I took it up for the MOT. I think it will take a while to get used to it though a track day is probably the best place.

I had a strange one with it not starting it had power everywhere but the fuel pump didn't do the prime when ignition turned on. Took a day or two to find it but it seems I had a loose injector lead and it stops it trying to start. If it is running and you pull one off it stops the engine, not seen that before maybe it's just on bikes but I can't find any info on it.

I intended to use the standard air box for injector mounts as have seen quite a few doing it but in the striker it sat way too high for good forward vision so have done this to see how it works. It may work or probably wont, once I get used to the car I will book some dyno time to see how it is. I have a wide band lambda on it to make sure it doesn't run too far out but only a dyno can tell if power is ok as I have no idea how it should feel from the seat. Now if it had my old Cosworth turbo engine in I would have some sort of clue. :)

I know Blyton is local to you but Llandow in the spring (with CKC) is worth the effort as its a good track to start to get the feel of a new car (and blow out the winter cobwebs) IMHO :D

I'd get it on a Dyno before running it on the road if I was you.

Agree with Jeff; Get it on the dyno. The exhaust and airbox change can make a big difference. I can recommend Damian at Daytuner. He did a great job on mine. I assume you're running a powercommander?

Yes I got the powercommander with the engine. I have discovered that the problem of not starting due to a loose injector clip only occurs when the powercommander is hooked up. :?: :?: :?:

I had intended to take the car to daytuner as they are highly recommended everywhere, I just want to make sure all the bugs are ironed out first as from previous dyno day experience even small problems can end up costing if they have to fix it before dyno runs commence.
