Hello Dave, yes that diagonal was always missing - it would have run right through the turbo and (original Cossie) exhaust manifold which was quite large. I'm sure it didn't do the chassis bending stiffness any favours but to be fair it seemed to work ok! And the springs weren't so stiff that the chassis would have been doing all the moving instead.
The steering shaft was pretty tight next to it also, and the clutch cable ran between turbo and manifold which meant fairly regular replacements were needed (well, every 2 or 3 years or so). It was from a Peugeot for some reason if I remember right. A hydraulic clutch would have been a good upgrade but never got round to it.
Presumably someone has bought it mainly for the V5.... So we'll see the car "resurrected" at some point, albeit not quite as it was before!
