sound like the death of the kit car...... :(

but could they lower the current MOT standard as a back dated target to hit ?

Sound like if youre thinking of a car best build one now.

Would it be possible to re-chassis a car and then re body it ? is that a different type of inspection and not the full IVA

I think there is a Ford RS200 replica where the parts are attached to the Toyota MR2 body as to avoid any inspections.

Anyway, sad to see the end of the kit car, but it is true that the UK really was an anomaly in the western world.

But let's be fair, there are plenty of kit cars out there with a license plate that you could completely restore if you like to build from scratch.

In other words, LET'S START RECYCLING!!

A response to Complete Kit car magazine just received.

A Department for Transport spokesperson said:

“The UK’s specialist vehicle industry is thriving – it creates jobs and gives enjoyment to many, with products exported all over the world.

“We are grateful to the over 2000 kit and replica car enthusiasts, manufacturers and suppliers who took part in this consultation. Following their responses, we have decided that there will be no changes to the current MOT–style testing of kit car emissions.”

I confess to being a little smug and very relieved.

Thank you all who responded
You did make a difference

I'm a little slow at times.
Does this mean no change for the IVA or just the MOT?

Does this give me the green light to go out and source an AJ30 (which the CANEMS ECU people are running in a BMW rally car if the internet is to be believed, so it's virtually plug and play  )

The change was to mot emissions which would immediately impact on IVA, in our opinion it would make older engines either impossible to meet the required mot emissions or very expensive.
The IVA test starts with an emissions test based on the current engine age related test limits.
If you fail that you don’t go on to the rest of the test.
Part of my submission to the consultation was about the time it would take for people to build their cars and the fact that more and more kit cars are starting to use later fuel injected engines. The other important fact was that we are recycling old cars in a much more clean and efficient way than most other ways.
From the response the government are now aware of the excellent specialist car industry that we are part of, “Garagistes” and proud of it.
