Half doors

Postby peter030371 » Sun Jan 28, 2018 4:03 pm

I am not sure why I have never (OK, i might have seen one once but I could have been dreaming about that) seen a Striker with half doors but I wanted to give it a go. Only done the drivers side for now so will have to wait until the spring to see if it cuts down on the buffeting a little :D

Any chance in a few pics of the pedal setup?

it looks as though youre running top hung and still managed to get the steering column through.

Will try and find some pictures tomorrow but I didn't make it all. The reservoirs were a pig though!

A few pictures of the pedal box as is.

Its all very tight and I haven't yet worked out how to squeeze in the dash board mount brake bias adjuster so that is still sitting in a box until I have time to worry about it. Currently the adjuster fouls the pedal box support and possibly the throttle pedal when you press the brakes hard. I need to modify the pedal box support side and probably the throttle pedal. The brakes are adjusted and seem fine so not going to rush to do it. Its a 'winter job' for another day in another winter ;)

To get the fluid reservoirs to fit the clutch one is offset one way and the next one the other way which was fun to machine....not!

So as much as it was tight and a pig to set up so far the driving experience is that they work well, give good feedback and feel when compared to my old, late 90's, Striker which had the Escort based pedal box :D

Does look very tight.

Im thinking floor mounted as i think i'll be able to push them further forward and be able to sit a little lower in the car.

Im 6'2" so the Fury is snug.

I am 6'2.5" and the Striker is even snugger than a Fury :P

If you ever want to have a look I am not a million miles away (about 35 miles at a guess) so you are welcome to pop in and see what has been done. I really must work out the leverage ratio of the pedals as I suspect Lynsey (the guy that did the pedal box mod) thought long and hard about getting it right as that is the sort of guy he is. I know Jeff managed to get an off-the-shelf top hung pedal box into his Phoenix but the steering column had to be re-routed around it and whilst it was a workable solution it lacked a certain elegance (would have suited a Tractor though) :o ;)

Floor mounted pedal boxes introduce a whole different level of issues.

Thanks for the offer, maybe one day.

Ive done my research on this an spoken to the guy who did it. He said the only reason for all the expensive UJ's was that the supercharger was in the way. It would have been a lot easier if it wasnt there.

I did wonder what with all the UJ's how it affected the steering weight as you get a torque loss when they are bent to extreme angles.

I was lucky enough to have half a day in a ginetta G40 GRDC lovely floor mounted pedals. I tried contacting Eddie Ives (pulse racing?) as he did well at kit cars and now runs to G40 juniors in the championship, but got no reply.

best pedals for reach were big deans, but he also had a lowered floor. Not something i want to do.

Its been a long term goal 2 years so far.

Sorry for the thread hijack.

Eddie was away testing I think. Dick/Jay would be able to put a floor mounted pedal box in, get the floor mount Tilton.

Yeah I know, but its expensive as i'll have to go hydraulic clutch too and ive got a couple of ski trips and maybe a new mountain bike to sort out.

Also my cardboard cut out of tiltons appears as though they wont sit any further away than the current pedals.
The whole idea of the exercise is to get me lower in the car so im looking through the middle of the screen.
Which is almost an F1 position :D
