I discovered that 3J do a set of half shafts which are much stronger and don't require any machining so....I've ordered a set.

They may be stronger than standard shafts... Whether they're stronger than your current mithril ones is still to be proved.

Be sure to mark the old ones left/right just incase they ever have to go back in.
