question:

does the viva hub fit on the chevette upright?

if yes, whith its viva wheel-bearings?

thats what i found in the locost forum: (more confused now)

"The viva hub outer diameter is not large enough for drilling the 4x108"
"Are you sure you used viva hubs? The studs are already near the edge, adding about 3.5mm to each stud outwards is really on the edge. "
"via hub has a pcd of 4x4" with 7/16" studs"
"RWD Kadette/Chevette/Ascona hubs may fit the Viva stub axles that should give you a 100mm PCD "

Hi Micha, there is no need to re-drill your hubs. Think I tried to explain before but maybe wasn't clear. If you are running Chevette uprights a Ford Mk1 or Mk2 Escort front hub will fit straight onto a Chevette stub axle pretty much. The only change you need to make is to fit the Vauxhall inner race and bearing into the Ford tapered outer race (straight fit but reduces the diameter to fit the Vauxhall stub axle) on the bearing on the inside of the hub, even the split pin hole lines up perfectly once it is all fitted. The bearing on the outer side is a straight fit, i.e. Ford onto Vauxhall stub axle. Buy a pair of preferably alloy Ford front hubs and bearings from rally dsesign or similar and keep your Vauxhall bearings handy it will all make sense when it is in front of you. Once the Ford discs are fitted the calipers don't quite line up but a bit of machining or a pair of adaptor plates will sort this, I initially re-fitted the Chevette calipers but then went for Hi Spec calipers later. Been running my race Striker like this for 2 years no problems. Honestly it is pretty simple and I only stumbled upon it by accident. Please excuse me if my responses are not very quick don't get to my computer that often.

I realize that this forum isn't very active and this is an old post, but I'd like to make a correction just in case anyone in the future reads it.
An Escort Mk1 / 2 hub does NOT fit on a Chevette upright, I have just tried it, the bearings fit but the hub is about 15mm too shallow. It is the Cortina hub, which shares the same bearings as the MK2 Escort, that fits. Standard Chevette bearings can be fitted to the Cortina hub as they are both 40mm and 50mm, however the Cortina grease seal must be used. So if you have a Striker MK3 or early Phoenix, buy 2 alloy Cortina hubs, Chevette bearings and Cortina grease seal (available individually from Burton).
