i would like to have my phoenix being equipped with the same PCD front and rear.
as the front is vauxhall, rear ford i want to ask if the vauxhall hubs could be redrilled?
and i yes, do i need to pay attention to something ? any pics existing from b4 and after?
alternatviely, can i purchase a allyo vauxhall hib which is already drilled with fird PCD?
if yes, do i need to pay attention to the wheel-bearings, as i have heard that there a 2 types existing which nearly have the same dimensions and often being mixed?
re-drilling vauxhall hub to ford PCD?

Hi micha, Haven't been on for a while so you may be sorted. I had the same dilemma on my Mk3 Striker and found out after a bit of trial and error that a standard Mk1/2 Escort not RS Hub basically goes straight onto the Chevette stub axle. All you need to do is swap one of the inner races from Ford to Vauxhall to account for a slight change in diameter. Overall length is the same with the split pin hole lining up nicely. Once I knew it worked I went for the Rally Design alloy hubs around £55 each and have done 13 hillclimbs and Sprints on them this year with no problems.

looks nice!!!!
sorry to ask (as i´m not a native english speaking person): what you exactly mean with:
swap one of the inner races from Ford to Vauxhall
does it mean that i have to use a ford bearing, but the inner part (race) from vauxhall?
on both bearings?`if not, on which one?

as an ex-machinist myself I would say - take it to a local machine shop and get them to drill your existing front hubs to have the Ford PCD and press in wheel studs.
personally I would weld up old Vauxhall stud holes so it looks better (and probably performs better without the extra holes).
this would cheaper and easier than buying extra parts

Re: re-drilling vauxhall hub to ford PCD?
another question to the ford-conversion:
the center of the brake-disc will remain the same?
the contact face from the wheel will be in the same location. so i will not have to play with the wheel offset or spacers?
@redstar:
is there enough "material" on the hub (in terms of diameter) drilling it to a bigger pcd?
the ford conversion would safe me some unsprung mass....so i would fancy that solution as the car will be used mainly on the track

not sure what Ford PCD you need is so can't answer that.
even if you had to get the hubs machined from billet I recon it would still be cheaper than buying and modifying Ford items.

is this the same type of hub you have and PCD you want?

Re: re-drilling vauxhall hub to ford PCD?
With regard to the discs they do move the centre line a little and I found I had to have the lugs on the calipers machined down slightly to fit, there is plenty of meat on them or you could go to upgraded calipers as I have just done and have some adapters machined, again straight forward. As you suggest I have lost some serious weight from each side now!
As RedStar says it would be easier to maybe get the Chevette hubs re-drilled, I did look into it but the machine shop said the shape on the back doesn't lend itself readily to this if you go 90 degrees out as it is a bit thinner between the webs.
I have been slowly developing mine into Ford front end and it saves a lot of hassle with wheels.

Re: re-drilling vauxhall hub to ford PCD?
if I was given the task to machine some Vauxhall items (or even if I was to do my own) I would mill the Ford 108mm PCD into the hubs so that the "new" holes totally remove the "old" Vauxhall 100mm PCD holes due to them overlapping - hope that makes sense.
then I would then insert new (custom machined) wheel studs in place.....none of this moving the holes around 22.5 degrees rubbish. I could make them whatever thread and length I wanted then. might even weld them in place for good measure.
looks like there is no "right" or "wrong" way to do this (as with so many things when modifying cars - that's why I like it)

Re: re-drilling vauxhall hub to ford PCD?
I'm in the same situation, but I believe the hubs on my early Striker are from a Viva
I only found out that I had different PCD's front to rear when I went to swap the Rostyle's for alloys
Mine are different to the image in the link, the 4" pcd (101.6mm) on the Viva hub are already very close to the outside of the thin and tapering hub. I wouldn't even trust going out the extra 3.2mm required, also the Viva studs are 3/8" unf (about 9.5mm) I think that I read that the Ford 12mm splined studs need a mounting hole of 13.1mm - so that's bringing the hole edge even further out
I think that my options are
- changing the hubs
- getting some 4" to 108mm adaptors made - I've found some for about £125 which is more than I'd like to spend
- Redrilling the Viva hubs at 100mm, fitting Ford 12mm studs and then using 100/108 multistud wheels
Leon
I take it that you had to go to Escort discs?
