Car value for insurance

What a grim saturday this is, the weather is utter pants. Got me thinking about sunny days when the new car is complete :)

So what does everyone say when asked the value for insurance of our beloved toys?

My previous Striker was easy as I got it second hand and fully built so the value was what I paid for it but the new Striker was far from road worthy when I got it (collected in boxes ;) ). I have also spent a lot more on it since as the Mrs will confirm :o

Any clues how I value it? Should I just list the basic spec here and see what the general opinion is? Is there an independent 'expert' that can value it?

I would add up the cost of building it and then add some. You need to factor in how much would it cost you if you had to do it again in a couple of years time.

also don't forget to add up the real value not the one you tell the wife

This is what i did.
A-Plan also wanted photos and a small spec sheet that you send to them and they look at what you've got and what they think.(I might not have sent this off yet D'oh) youre insured to market value until you send it off
Not all places do agreed value now thats why i changed to A-Plan the have a thing going with another forum that i also post on.

doesnt the insurance estimate a car“s value according to the spec, condition and typical market price?
