Hi guys,

I've currently got a fly screen on my striker but as its bloody freezing I'm thinking of sticking my full windscreen on.
What wipers are usually used on our cars?

Same here, mine came from an old mini. Some have one wiper and some have two....mine has one and is between pointless and useless in operational effectiveness It just waves around a bit and tickles the rain more than wipes it but it passes the MOT which is really all I have it for! Unless you are driving my washer jet is also equally useless, it goes right over the car to the MOT tester stood behind

I was looking at this problem for another Striker a few weeks ago and you can get some compact direct drive wiper units, like you see on the rear screen of many cars now. Some are not 'rated' for continuous use but some are...then the chance of the 2nd Striker went away so I never got one to really check it out. It could be a more modern and lighter/ compact way of solving the problem though

Yeah i have some prehistoric wiper system in my garage which i believe to be an old mini one.
I was thinking along the lines of a rear wiper solution as well.

Maybe i'll have another play with the one i've got and see if it's likely to do much.

additional question, is the wiper blade also from the above mentioned Mini?
I missed to measure it out when it flew over my head by its first use..

i didn't have a wiper blade with the unit, just the motor and an arm, i have ordered the standard mini wiper blade to see if this is going to fit...

Just a bit of info from someone who has done this - me. The wiper motor, arms and blades are all mini. The tubes are too long so need to be shortened for the smaller screen and closer spacing of the wipers. My wipers worked well, even when it was lashing it down.

The screen itself, without doors is far more unpleasant to drive than with the fly screen. The doors are the key to making it "wind friendly".

You will then need to move your mirrors onto the doors, not only for viewing angle, but also to be able to properly open the door.

The soft top - if they still make one - does work well enough, but obviously you will get water ingress. If you do get a soft top, make sure you ask them to put some side windows in it. With harnesses, the car is unsafe to drive without these windows - you simply cannot see!

I already have side doors, so i'll see what it's like with and without.
Is it really that bad with a full windscreen?
My reason for fitting at the moment is that the weather is horrible and it would be nice to drive without my face freezing off!
I do have a helmet, but i'd prefer to drive without one

I have a full screen, doors and soft top. The soft top is so 'close' and dark that I hate driving the car with it on. I will do anything to avoid driving with the roof up and only use it for protection if its parked outside overnight

If it does rain then with the full screen and doors I find I get almost as much rain on the inside of the screen as the outside....so I tend to avoid rain altogether in the Striker

One of the chaps at RAW told me this. My striker has a full screen and I've lost various caps and even a pair a sun glasses. It's much nicer with the doors on.
Only been caught in the rain once, the roof leaked, windscreen misted up and me and missis haven't been that cuddled up for years! Still think it was better than nothing at all though.
