A few Fury Queries

Postby FuryCosworth » Thu Jul 18, 2013 3:35 pm

Hi All,

I have recently come into Fisher Fury ownership with a Cosworth Turbo YB engine. It's a hoot but I need to start tinkering a little and could do with some guidance -

The steering column has a joint as shown:

And there is a bush of some kind here:

Any ideas if this is a Fisher part or something else? There is a fair bit of play here

Also, the ball joint on the wishbone and the track rod end need replacing - are these Fisher parts or something else?

The steering column bush looks like a standard mk2 escort. You want an MP1011 from Burtons (for £3.95) and whilst you are changing it you might as well do the top one (MP1010) for the same price again :)

Unless you have a modified column top for fitting a QR wheel....in which case chances are the top bush is now stuck in place for life (but you should still be able to do the bottom one) :(

Thanks guys, I can see this is the right place to be!

I had a closer look at the bush and it seems there is a washer which sits against to welded tabs but it doesn't look like a top hat bush, possibly the lip has worn away completely! I'll get those bits ordered though, thanks very much for the links - I couldn't see the top bush, presumably the steering wheel is removed and the column slides out forward to access it?

IIRC the Escort column had a roll pin that held the washer in place at the forward end. Once that was knocked out the column came out backwards.

This must be Ruari's old car?

Looks like it. I think it was up for sale recently.

It is indeed Ruari's old car, had a nice chat with him last week about the history of it etc. I bought it off Crispin (semi indirectly!) who owned it previously.

Could be a roll pin that is corroded, when you say backwards do you mean into the cabin or into the engine bay?

It looks like I can undo the uj and then slide out through the engine bay without removing the roll pin at first glance

By backwards I mean into the cabin. Send me a PM with your email and I'll send a pdf of the relevant Haynes manual.

I see, in that case the roll pin would definitely need to come out - will send you a pm, thanks
