Sylva Star axle change for a magnum axle?

Postby rich201283 » Tue Apr 02, 2013 8:10 am

Sylva star axle - I have a viva 1256 axle on my kitcar and wanted to upgrade to a magnum axle due to the better diff ratio.
I came to the point of fitting it but the propshaft fouls the tunnel - The diff flange appears to be further to the right on the magnum axle.

How did people fit the magnum axle to the sylva leaders? - The only option would be to take an inch off the tunnel as far as i can see but this would mean the propshaft would not run straight.

Offsets are fine providing the angles are equal and the flanges parallel it will be no problem. If the box is pointing down 3 degrees the the axle should point up 3 degrees - there is a case that it is better to have the prop not driving perfectly aligned in all views as it point loads the bearings in the UJ rather than the UJ bearings rotating in the joint.
