Still progressing well and moving into the details of trying to get the car through IVA.
The headlamp height has now been resolved.
1) Adding a 25mm spacer to the lower nonnet mounting bracket
2) Adding a signifant amount of preload to the front springs
The resulting wheel gap would not look out of place on a trials car and it has required some softwood wedges to provide close of the gaps between the bonnet and sill.
Headlamp height to the bottom of the beam wedge is now 510mm = just some paint to blend the work required.
Next works revolve around the interior and exterior projections - so will be making up a couple of gauges to see where occupancy padding is required and purchasing some completely out of charatcter wing and centre mirrors - go with the rear lights though.....
Anything obvious we should be aware of ?
Cheers
Andrew

Re: Fury Spyder Duratec build
A couple of quick ones that should be an easy answer.
Rocker bolt size -
Everything on the suspesnsion is 1/2" with the exception of this bolt which is an M12 - at M12 the amount of slop in the mounting holes in the chassis and in the sleeve itself means that there is about 1.5mm of play in the toal assembly - the bolt holes appear to be for 1/2" but the pivot tube/sleeve appears just a tad tight for 1/2" - I plan to use a 1/2" bolt to improve things and ream the pivot tube to suit - what should it be - M12 is a rubbish fit.
Rear camber
Although the wishones appear to be the same we have negative camber on one side of the car and positive on the other - with the top wishbones both set at the minimum width adjustment and the lower wishbones set the same with excessive length on the rose joints. Anyone else had this?

Thats a no idea then
Well its getting reamed to 1/2" and fitted with a suitable 1/2 bolts to take all the play out of it.

Apparently any chassis in the last 10 years should have 1/2" holes and use 1/2" UNF bolts. Speak to Steve at Fury Sportscars and he can supply the right info & parts (if required).

Just had the same 1/2 inch 12mm thing on my striker, got a cone cutter(if that's what they are called) and with a small socket set drilled the holes out. new bolts and the job was done in a couple of hours.

Re: Fury Spyder Duratec build
About time we resurrect this post and use it as some sort of incentive to get the completed.
Progress slowed considerably this year due to one thing another but progress was still made nonetheless and its not that far off now.
Had some entertainment recently when warming the car up and the still starting to smoke even with heat reflective matting - The cat in the exhaust silencer does not appear to be insulated from the outer casing so the outer casing gets red hot and its just too darn close for the comfort of the sill - we have now wrapped the cat part of the silencer to see if we can reduce the temp to a manageable level before we go ventilating that part of the sill.
We still have a few IVA issues to contend with = one of them being the position of the side repeaters and this 5 degree rule - where they are at present we don't think they quite comply so it looks like moving them to the front wing may be the way to go.

Almost certainly you will need to open up either end of the pod and cut away a section of the underneath.

I very much agree with Jeff on this one , it's a problem that goes back at least to 1998 from my memory of the original magazine stories of ' fires ' within the sill. How close it is within the sill , wrapped or not , isn't nearly as important as plenty of airflow ----- in and definitely out . Mine has 4 x 90mm holes under the manifold sill then the underneath plus side of the exhaust system has no fibreglass whatsoever , right back to the chassis under the car and to the exit pipe . The top of my silencer to fibreglass gap is 20mm .
The only car that will get away without this mod ' would be very low powered and using a 4 inch max silencer.
Like this -- big slots in front of the door and 90mm holes under the sill below the manifold area . This is sticking out more than needed so it could be further in

Cheers guy's - we have opened up the front and rear for airflow "on the go" and I think it will be inevitable that the sill panel will need to be opened up - without the cat we may have been able to just about get away with it but with the cat in the silencer and un insulated this red hot glowing mass in the sill is just not going to play ball.

We now have ventilation hole/slot/oval in the sill section and as this was done in stages the first smaller cut make it quite clear that it was due for a conflagration had we not as it was only when we had extended the vent to near 18" long that the silencer no longer had direct contact with the sill.
