I'm not sure there is much of a market Rob....but there might be money to be made for someone.

Or you could use one of these to divert the exhaust to an extra rear muffler when there are dB meters around ;) ....

Have to say that I intially tried the Varex muffler in the side pod, but there were several problems.
Firstly, the length of the headers meant that there wasn't enough room for a flexible joint (or a catalytic converter ah 'em) and it was a very tight fit in the side pod.
Second, there was too much heat build-up.
Thirdly, i would say that without a smaller muffler prior to the Varex, it still wasn't quiet enough (bearing in mind it's a BEC)

It doesn't get too hot around the bodywork if you cut the side pod right out in a nice rounded fashion , as I've done . Then the silencer can bulge out from the chassis too , allowing air via the front to flow all around the header and complete silencer arrangement . I cut the fibreglass out completely to the lower chassis rail then about 50mm's from the door cill plus rounded it at each end . Mine sticks out beyond the body about 25mm's.

I see some of you chaps have cut away part of the side pod to aid cooling of the exhaust. Currently I have a 10" dia hole cut into the front vertical surface of the LH pod with a piece of mesh covering it. Originally when I was using the Toyota engine, I had a small radiator fan mounted at the front of the pod...but it didn't really work, so it's now deleted.
This week I've added a NACA duct to the underside surface of the LH side pod up near the front, so I'll see how this works :)

I have 4 times 4 inch holes drilled directly under the exhaust manifold primaries where they join the collector which , along with the body cut -a - way , acts like blowing across the top of a bottle to withdraw the liquid inside --- added to that , air from the grill pushes past the manifold then out and around the silencer .
I personally wouldn't have the exhaust inside the fibre glass pod whether insulated or not --- I've seen a good few very sad faces over the last 15 years of kit ownership

Does that actually get any liquid out of the bottle?
