Spent another day on the wiring on me bro's Star,

Connected all the earthing points for the front
Connected all of the gauge senders bar the fuel gauge
Added the connectors onto the main loom to connect the bonnet circuit
Main effort was fabricating new loom for the rear tub

A few pics, one in memory of the old rear tub loom, work in progress and work complete

It was time for some work on my Star this evening.

I'd noticed over the past few weeks a nasty vibration coming from the prop and an investigation showed that it had a 1-2mm bow in it which caused it to run on the transmission tunnel over 60mph :o . So I ordered a new one from Bailey Morris who were very helpful, seeing it had to be fabricated as a one off, Fiat 132 gearbox 3prong to Magnum axle with slip joint, they also used a second UJ and therefore negating the use of the rubber donut. Have to say it was wrong first time, simply due to a missed email, but they rectified and posted it same day as it arrived back in the factory at their expense, so can't moan at that. Pics below of old and new prop, must say the new one is of a rather better quality that the first one, where the welding wasn't even straight nor the pipe cut square. Back on the Red Star on Friday watch this space may have it running . . . then again . . .

Sorry this thread has turning into my progress report . . .

Blue Star: Prop fitted, the result was unbelievable, the difference in the driving experience was considerable, showing that the old prop had been out for as long as I've had the car and the car also seemed more responsive, in part no doubt to less vibration but possibly in replacing the rubber donut for the UJ has resulted in the removal of some sponginess and 'play'. Hope to bring it to Stoneleigh on Monday

Red Star: Friday was more of a fault finding day than physical progress. Key elements sorted include, fitting the battery in the engine bay (previously in the boot) and wiring it all up. Temporary fitting of the radiator and plumbing. Wiring issues corrected some school boy errors, it's amazing that even though I've been meticulous in recording every aspect of the wiring loom fabrication I still had a dozen wires wrong in four connectors. Finally traced problem with indicators to the hazard switch, turns out I'm not the only one to have issues wiring the durite switches for reference a useful diagram is here http://westfield-world.com/durite.htm. The main result of the day was getting the engine running for the first time, so varied progress made.

Lee

What catches/latches have you used to keep the side screens shut? I need to get mine on, I have the lift off hinges but wondered about the other end.

Cheers, Mark

Alas I have not been able to find out with any certainty what the front lights are from, the original build/brochure implies that they are from the Viva HC donor although others have thought they were Chevette, they may in fact be the same anyway. The lights on mine are squarer than the Chevette, so they may be Hillman Avenger. However I would have thought that you'll able to use a standard three pronged main & dip bulb??
