Wow - thanks guys 8-)

Having sat in the car today and checked I'm going with your suggestions Paul, Rob and David in increasing the height of the rear hoop - those extra few inches could be a life saver.

Thanks Andy for the pics, very informative - I like the lines of yours and may well use your method although David's method of running it inside the line of the screen has me thinking - need to take a look at how that could pan out :?

More questions   I'll let you know what I decide

Thanks again everybody ;)

RobMsport wrote:Andy , your cage at the top is very nearly touching your helmet in the photo . For competition it ought to clear your helmet by 2 or 3 inches because a line drawn from rear roll hoop to front bonnet should clear by 2 inchess PLUS if you ended up on track upside down you could break your neck .

Possibly ... but she'll never be going near any competition events. So there was a compromise involved but i reckon it's a whole lot safer than just the standard hoop.

i had planned to go the same route as David, but this was a retrofit without having to strip down the whole car. I also preferred the larger aperture of the front hoop, when i looked at a Caterham with the hoop in a similar position it just seemed to me to be in the wrong place.

the view from above...

Horizontal tubes are mounted on an extended plate ( '\_/' shaped) on the under side of the frame.
