Thanks for the tips Tim. Trailering the car to the DVLA tomorrow.

I'm planning to fit a stick-on plate the front to follow and not spoil the sexy curves. You can by them on-line/Ebay, but they aren't entirely legal are they? Despite being the correct size, lettering and even reflective - just a bit thinner. I wonder if my MOT man or the plod would take any notice.

Having said that, a quick Google and I found... Plates fitted to models registered after 1 September 2001 that aren’t embossed with the name and postcode of the supplier and BS AU145d British Standard symbol will result in an automatic MOT failure ...

hmm, what's your experience :?

Never had a problem Steve, Most of us seem to find that if you take it to a garage where the inspector appreciates more unusual cars, he doesn't even notice. I had a pair made up anyway, and if he ever moans, just stick it to the bonnet with a bit of double sided, and then remove it as soon as your certificate is in your hands! Did they request an MOt at the test station anyway? Mine did, and if this is the case, if it's still unregistered, then they do it against the chassis number.

I didn't MOT the car prior to the IVA as I heard that once tested you'd have to MOT again in a years time as the database would require it. In any case the system will not allow you to MOT an unregistered car nowadays. I took mine for what I called a 'pre test' at my MOT station, so they went through the usual MOT test motions, but didn't log me into the system or issue a cert, but at least I knew the brakes worked, the lights were aligned and the wheels weren't going to fall off :D MOT wasn't mentioned during the IVA test.

I considered (& hope) that I won't need an MOT for 3 years now it's been IVAd, but not sure how that would be formally confirmed or recorded? So, I'll go the stick-on route 8-)

Cheers

The rules may have changed from SVA, I'm not sure. I thought i wouldn't need an MOT for 3 years, but the next TAX disc reminder stated that i did. I think if you get a new plate then the 3 year gap would be the case, but an age related plate means MOT from the 1st year.

Very nice car, well done for getting it through the test.

I SVA'ed just over a year ago, and recently renewed my TAX online. Didn't need an MOT. It still feels wrong that a car I built myself in a shed doesn't need testing but a my Audi, which is 1000x more reliable, regularly serviced, and safe but does need a test!

Regarding front stick-on number plates. These are technically an MOT fail, but nearly everyone has them and it doesn't seem to be a problem. I got mine from "craigsplates" service was good. I will find out in 2 years whether the local MOT man cares.

I trailered the car (at great expense) to the DVLA this morning for its check, which took all of 5 mins after a drive of over an hour (each way). To cut a long story short, I now have a tax disc (also at great expense £205 for a year  ) and a pair of age registered (J) plates :D .

Will be going the stick-on front plate route, but for now I must say 'over and out' as I'm half cut through drinking several glasses of bubbly rose with the Mrs in celebration of the end of an build era and the start of driving fun.

Bonjour and don't play with the handle on your stomach (too much) hic :P

Cheers for now

Steve

Edited to add, DVLA said no MOT required until 3 years time :)

Congratulations Steve on getting your Fury IVA'd and registered. It looks fantastic, well done. I hope mine looks that good when it's finally finished.

Nice one! :)
It's taken some people a lot longer than that to get thier plates after the DVLA inspection. How many miles have you put on the clock now?
Take it easy out there. These cars can bite if you're not used to them.

Cheers Adrian

I was brought up on tuned escorts and mantas and more recently owned a TVR and a Westfield so I'm used to playing with opposite lock :P. I don't plan to drive this car too hard at all - I must be getting old

I've just made and fitted some wind deflectors which are uncannily like yours Adrian 8-)

I'm gonna change the diff as it whines a bit too much and then cut a bit of the rear arches as the wheels rub. Then wait for the sun to come out and go for some blats :D
