mmm, so it seems. mine definitely doesn't. sealed beams didn't rub so bad, I suspect with the smaller 13" wheels I have fitted on the front they would've cleared but the H4's seem a little deeper.
Anyway 5 3/4"'s in now, pics later :-)

both pictured cars have 7inch headlamps.

as i already posted before:

the bonnets with headlamp covers (are those called "le mans" bonnets??) are using 5.75inch.

standard, "old" school and downforce bonnet are always using 7"

sealed beam units (which are not allowed over here) are slighty flatter than H4.

finished, well sort of. lights aren't pretty, you can see all the adjusters etc. But they work, aim right and the wheels don't rub them!
I also filled in the bonnet badge recess and put the stick on number plate

i did some searching and found the listing for the advert for the old Phoenix, it went to italy, the buyer reckoned he'd get Eu15k for it, which I have to say I thought optimistic, I sold it for £4400

doesn't look like he even did much to it, tho' he told me it was going to be painted British Racing Green

It wouldn't be difficult to make up fibreglass rims to fit over the adjusting mechanism then paint them yellow --- this way , mentally they'd dissappear :) I always think it looks 'tat' to have the lamp covers black when the car's some other colour
