Look What I have Done
Seems I am always fixing something or breaking it

I feel pleased for once that I have a live axle....That could have been nasty.

When that's welded back in position I'd put a flat piece of 2mm steel plate , approx'ly 3 feet long , 3inches wide in the middle out to 1 inch at the ends ----- welded along the top edge of that tube to form a straight edge facing the front
From your pic ' , it looks as though the tube is bow shaped , putting strain at those split points

Spot on rob, it looks to me that the angle of the bar was say 45 degrees and when the mounting plate was bolted up to the diff it has put strain on it, ended up as you see. The left hand joint has only a few mm holding it on
