Larger the cylinder bore , the less stroke for a given volume of oil which gives a harder pedal . I run a 3/4 cylinder for the front and 5/8 on the rear drums . Personally I prefer a hard pedal and really good pads.

Regarding the Black Hawk pads. They do work well, but can be a little surprising from stone cold.

I've used Hawk since 2004 and provided you follow exactly the ' bedding in ' instructions , they work very well from cold . If you sprint you need them to be there immediately and they've never let me down .

Thanks for the advice, the master cyls have Girling 625 on the side of the bodies, I assume this means they are 5/8" bore. I will change the pads and may also change the left hand caliper. These (from previous owner) are Escort mk1/2. I don't know if they are mk1 or mk2 (trying to get this info confirmed by Fisher), do you know if the discs/cal are the same for both these mks.

yes, .625 is 5/8" bore which should be fine. If it had said .75 (3/4") then I'd have said change the front one to 5/8.

Sort the caliper, change pads and then get used to them.

Pads on order (plus replacement caliper). Thanks for the advice from all.
