You are quite right, it was the Focus ST170 gearbox.

A couple of items-

Six speed for Sigma-
It's my understanding that the new six speed on the EcoBoost may fit the Sigma engine and is stronger & lighter
Anyone have any firsthand info?

The EcoBoost 1.6 & six speed might be a great solution.
Does anyone have a source for these yet?

I'm still very interested in using the Ford / Mazda 2.5 KLDE / KLZE.
Pros for this engine include - great power, great sound, low cost, reliability, parts sources
Cons include higher weight than the Sigma
Any actual weights and experience?

Thanks
Chet

Don't have weights for the Mazda V6. I did think about the Rover 2.5 KV6 engine (as used in the Landrover Freelander). That weighs 154kg(340lbs) wet, but is only 177bhp/177lb.ft so I didn't think the weight penalty worth it.

Hi guys,

Very interested in this thread as I am hoping to import a J15 kit to Australia in the near future and have also been looking at engine options.

The Fiesta ST has an IB5+ gearbox, essentially the same externally as the standard IB5 but stronger internals to handle the extra hp.

Another two engines that I have been looking at very hard are the Mini Cooper S engines. the first generation of the new Mini was fitted with the Tritec supercharged 1.6l engine while the latest Mini is fitted with the Prince 1.6l turbo engine developed by BMW in partnership with Peugeot, also found in the Peugeot 308 and 207.

Both come standard with a six speed box.

From what I can gather online, the Tritec is much easier to modify with a simple change of pulley on the supercharger and exhaust mods giving easily over 200hp, Sprintex have also developed a bolt on replacement supercharger which improves the torque curve and final power. That said the Prince engine seems to be regarded as the better engine.

From Wikipedia

Tritec
The 1.6 SC uses a Roots-type Eaton M45 supercharger with intercooler. The compression ratio is reduced from 10.5:1 to 8.3:1. Output was initially rated at 120 kW (160 PS; 160 hp) and 210 N·m (150 lb·ft) but has since been increased to 125 kW (170 PS; 168 hp) and 220 N·m (160 lb·ft). The 1.6 SC won the "1.4 L to 1.8 L" category at the International Engine of the Year awards for 2003. It also won Ward's 10 Best Engines award for 2003.
Applications:
MINI Cooper S

Prince
For the THP175 maximum torque is 178 lb-ft (247 N·m) at 1600 rpm, remaining flat to 5000 rpm. Power output is 175 PS (173 hp/128 kW) at 5500 rpm. An overboost function is available which temporarily increases torque to 192 lb-ft (260 N·m) between 1700 rpm and 4500 rpm in gears 3 to 5.
Applications:
2006–2010 Peugeot 207 RC
2007–present Mini Cooper S
2008–present Peugeot 308

Cheers

Another consideration I spoke to Jeremy about, is that most engines sit to the right side of the car, same as the driver. Obviously this will impact on weight distribution with such a small car (and a 100kg driver ). An engine which sits to the left of the car would be ideal and the best options I have seen in this regard are the Honda engines, B16B, B18C and F20B. The pick of these seems to be the B18C from the type R Integra DC2 aprox 1997-2002.
Jeremy sent me some pictures of various builds and included one of a Riot chassis with a B16? fitted, seemed to fit ok.

I was considering the same previously. When looking at the various engines I actually bought a honda b18 c4 this was honda vti engine with 170bhp as standard, lsd semi close box, etc. The important part it's that the engine sits perfectly on the opposite side to driver.Perfect balance, It can easily be upgraded but the standard ecu, manifold will give 170 bhp on a stock exhaust!, the exhaust lies infront of the engine i.e. down and back reducing the pipe work at the back, i also reckon the driveshafts are very close and don't need chopping. lots of aftermarket mods as well.180/190bhp is easy,

If your interested let me know as jeremy is holding the engine for me at present but not for long. It's done 27k and is clean externally.

Holy thread resurrection one again again batman.

Has any one fitted a KLDE to there J15? The closest I came to finding a weight is hear
http://www.offroadvw.net/bajawes/V6_baja/compare.html

Has any one found any other weight information on the KLDE engine?

at the moment I am swinging betwean the KLDE and a 2.0 duretec I like the idea of the sound of the V6 and being a bit difrent but also like the number of off the shelf bits for the duretect.

The Honda B18 looks nice as well however there does not seem to be a good supply of them in the UK.
