Hi Folks
A quick query, does the 1.6 zetec se engine have an adaptor plate between gearbox and engine ?
My Puma (good reference tool) doesnt, not that i can see but the Haynes manual mentions making sure that the "adaptor plate is correctly seated on the dowels"
I have a brand new engine complete with clutch but second hand g/box
My last car was all home reconditioned and i had to cut my own adaptor plate for type 9 to 2.0 l zetec so dont want to proceed until i know the answer

Might have answered my own question, what the Haynes manual refers to as the adapter ring is the outer rim of the bellhousing and i dont have the dowels/inserts so a visit to the Ford dealer with a few pennies.

A 2lt Zetec to type 9 goes straight on without any adapter . Maybe you're refering to the thin steel gasket which also covers the air gap on the drivers side of the bell housing when fitted to a rear wheel drive bell housing. It's only 1mm thick. Perhaps the Sigma hasn't got the zetec/pinto/ crossflow bolting pattern -- I know the Duratecs are totally different being Mazda's .

Thanks for the reply yes i was thinking of the 1mm thick gasket thinking that was the "adapter plate" but having looked more closely it is a perfect fit with no gaps to cover unlike the 2.0l zetec and mk9.
The dowels are i think small inserts in the thread housing that fit half in bell housing half in engine block to help with initial alignment and then to ensure a good snug fit, the Ford man seems to know what i am on about but with just a telecon its hard to tell !

For reference the zetec se engine (sometimes called sigma) does not have the same bellhousing bolt pattern as the zetec/pinto/xflow
